- Nick Fegan Watercolours
'Lodge Bog' Lullymore Co. Kildare

This was a series of paintings and drawings i did a few weeks back. I really enjoyed working on these watercolours and sketches. The weather was so cold and gray - synonymous with your typical Irish landscape. The overcast sky complimented the 'tapestry' coloured landscape. I never knew bogs could be so beautiful, so many subtle colours when you look hard and long. The desolation was a breath of fresh air in a hectic world..(not so far away too!) The dark browns (peat earth) mid-ground was the darkest value, and the sky been the lightest.

This is myself in action. Just finished a sketch with notes on the sketchbook. It's important for me to record everything, including dates, time, and conditions; i can bring it all back to the studio and ready for my final thoughts in watercolour - a studio painting. I feel a great sense of relief when i sketch/paint 'plein-air' (outdoor work). Working out doors brings so much more to a painting, life is brought into the work. PS: the above painting is from a slightly different angle.
