Another recent watercolour. Revisiting the West Pier Dun Laoghaire; it's a great location, local and accessible. I do find this location very inspritional...i know it's a bit of a cliche. I am seeking out other fantastic locations soon: Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Our Lady's Island and Curracloe Co. Wexford. Howth and Skerries Co. Dublin. (Getting the time between work and painting is a balance)
This painting took a long time to complete. I had to approach it from an unusual angle. instead of a profile sketch, i decided to take it looking towards the bow side (front of the boats). This angle gave me an opportunity to show the viewer all the craft in the water and part of the pier section and all the paraphernalia, riggings and ropes. The day was again, overcast and gloomy. I tried to combine the overcast conditions in both sky and water using the the same colour tones. Boy Jamie is the title: suggesting the name of the trawler with the coloured barrier bouys.
