'Cold Afternoon Percy Place'

'Cold Afternoon Percy Place'

This is a favourite old haunt of mine. I always love painting and sketching this stretch of the canal. The tranquility and beauty is breathtaking amongst the hustle and bustle of city life - literally in the backround. It was a cold April afternoon and i arrived to locate a 'painting spot'. I marched up and down Percy place for about a half hour, studying and pacing to get the 'perfect' spot for a perspective to work for me. Just off the Merrion Road side 100 yards in i found it!

What i loved was the tree lined roads. Not just that; the trees were still bare and leafless. What this achieves: is to show the viewer a glimpse through the trees to the victorian architecture, etc behind. The bridge is obviously a big feature as i wanted this centre of attention. To the left a small red brick cottage which carries you  along the narrow path to the foreground.
