'Storm Ophelia Scotsmans Bay, Sandycove'
I will always remember this painting. So many storms have names now; however, this storm will be remembered in Ireland as it was pretty bad. Here i tried to convey it in picture format. The sky is very melodramatic. I wanted to get the sea hues correct, or as sincere as can be. The highlight of course is the red roof house. In the mid-section you will see the rocks - the secret here is to make them very dark as most of this side of the painting was shaded..(where i was working). The only part that got the light was the top of the buildings and tops of trees. It was so cold and obviously extremely windy, but i was determined to finish it off. A good sketch is worth all the time in the world. Its like a map, guiding you to a destiny. i always put notes and colour references on my sketchbooks along side my drawings/sketches.
