'Cold afternoon Queen's Road Dun Laoghaire'
I did this watercolour very recently. It's not a place i frequent often. However, when i was there a few weeks back, it struck me how beautiful this place is on a crisp afternoon. The sky and broad landscape struck me firstly. Especially the cerulean sky and it's fluffy cumulus cloud formations drifting by in the pleasent breeze. I love painting skies. The backround was a challenge; i had to get not only the buildings in, but the shadows cast on them also! The foreground rocks added unity and interest, as did the roosing gulls pearched on the rocks. I find seaweed a joy to paint as they add real character and life to the rocks and surrounds. In the far distant left you can just make out the James Joyce Tower.
